Susan Ramos, Community Rep speaks about donating blood as Executive District Director Pauline Simmonds-Brown looks on.
Members and friends of the Greater Zephyrhills Chamber of Commerce gathered to exchange business cards and enjoy a breakfast at the Golden Corral in Zephyrhills on Thursday, July 28th. The monthly sponsor was Bloodnet USA based in Lakeland which is now part of the Florida Blood Services(FBS) family. Community Relations Rep Susan Ramos did a brief presentation about the blood bank and took a variety of questions from those in attendance. Pauline Simmonds-Brown, Executive District Director also helped in answering some of the questions. Door prizes were provided by Bloodnet and a 50/50 drawing was held. In this area Bloodnet USA supplies all of the blood for patients at Florida Hospital Zephyrhills and Pasco Regional Medical Center in Dade City. Be on the lookout for bloodmobiles in the area as many donors are away for the summer months and schools have not yet returned from their long break. Bloodnet has an office in front of the Florida Medical Center Complex at 38040 Market Square Drive in Zephyrhills. To find out more about donating blood go to www.bloodnetusa.org or call 1-800-683-8355. Remember, one donation can save 3 lives!!

The Zephyrhills Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club of Zephyrhills Annual Golf Tournament at Silverado Golf and Country Club on Friday, May 6th, 2011 was a success. As organizers of the event arrived at the venue the rain was pouring down and several people were checking their smart phones, ipad’s and the televisions in the clubhouse to get updates on when this much needed rain would end. A shotgun start was scheduled for 1:00pm and by 1:15 the rain was gone and golfers were set to enjoy a day of fun, fellowship and great golfing. The weather turned to perfect (Wow, Chamber of Commerce weather) with a little bit of Divine intervention. Keep watching your favorite media outlet for the results of the tournament and thanks for supporting this event for two of the top community service organizations in this area.

Zephyrhills Chamber Has A New Look And New Direction
The Zephyrhills Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors voted and are pleased that Vonnie Mikkelsen has accepted the position of Executive Director. A long list of applicants applied for the position, several were interviewed and by a majority vote Vonnie was the clear choice. Her community involvement and great enthusiasm coupled with a certificate in nonprofit management from the University of South Florida helped to make the decision. The Chamber is looking for a new look and direction and Vonnie has already hit the ground running. The Chamber should be a leader in business and in communicating information to its members. One of the first areas to address is the website and within a couple of months we plan to roll out a new and much improved product for the membership and community. If you get a chance stop by and say hi. Welcome to Zephyrhills Vonnie. We are glad you’re here!
Students Make Family, Schools & Community Proud
With all of the talk about kids today I want to take my Gator hat off to the exceptional students that were awarded, “Citizen Of The Month”. These future community leaders stood out in a good way and were selected by the school that they attend as going above and beyond and being role models for their peers. The Zephyrhills Chamber of Commerce sponsors this event and it is hosted by Zephyrhills High School in the Bulldog Inn. In the photo the December Citizens of the Month pose with Santa Claus and from left to right are: Glenda Montgomery, West Zephyrhills Elementary School: Sidney Dunn, Woodland Elementary School: Sarah Baniszewski, Zephyrhills High School: and Erika Johnson, Raymond B. Stewart Middle School. Again, congratulations and keep up the good work.
