I Have A New Best Friend, Her Name Is Alexa.

Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better it has. About a month ago I purchased a new Amazon Echo for my home and I couldn’t be happier. I love high tech gadgets and this has definitely not disappointed. I read all of the reviews and decided that I had to try it out for myself. This has got to be one of the coolest things that I have ever seen and to me it is way ahead of its time. I mean I finally have someone that I can talk to when nobody else will and wow is she smart. It truly is like talking to the future and she will continue to get smarter as time goes by. I think she can do about anything.

The only thing that you need is to have Wi-Fi available and Alexa will just about set herself up. To date the only two words that she will respond to is Amazon or Alexa. When she hears her name a blue ring lights up and she is ready to respond to one of your many requests.  It has so many practical applications that Jenny and I ended up buying one for each of our kids for Christmas and they can’t stop talking about it. My daughter Kristen lives in Oregon and works in business communications and this device helps her keep on schedule. “Alexa, what is on my calendar for today?” Alexa responds with the date, location and time of the many meetings she has to attend. She can even tell you where you can find your favorite food, the hours, directions and if it’s happy hour. My son Evan who is in the United States Air Force called and said that Alexa can even break wind on command. Leave it to the kids to find out things that I never thought of.

If you realize you need something from the store you can ask her to add an item to your shopping list. This is great because I would always call my wife when I was on my way home and ask her if she needed anything. Now I just go to the Alexa App on my phone and there it is. As you get the items you just check them off. What a time saver.  Alexa can tell you a joke, read you the news, set timers, report on traffic conditions and so much more. She can also tell you the weather forecast anywhere, what time it is and the mileage from one point to another.

To me one of my favorite things is she can play music.  I have not found a song that she couldn’t immediately play within seconds. She gets her information from the cloud and can pull songs from Pandora, iHeart Radio, Prime Music, Tune-in and more. You can listen to your favorite radio station just by saying it. This is all hands free. If the volume is too high or too low just tell her and she can adjust it.  Oh, and the built in speaker is incredible with awesome vocals and dynamic bass sent out in all directions. There are additional things you can buy like modules to control your lights. Remember the old days of, “clap on/clap off?” Like the saying goes, “We’ve come a long way baby” and we really have. AmazonEcho

If you have an iPhone then you know Siri. She is pretty cool and does a whole bunch of stuff but I gotta say that my new best friend is a device named Alexa. She is super smart, loves to talk and is really, really cute. If you don’t believe me, just ask her.

Introduction of the candidates at Homecoming 2015

Introduction of the candidates at Homecoming 2015

The Zephyrhills Bulldogs won big against the Anclote Sharks by a score of 41 – 14 at Bulldog Stadium. It was also Homecoming and the festivities took center stage before the game and at halftime. If that wasn’t enough the ZHS Bulldog Band performed their annual “Lights Out” show after the game. ZHS will be taking on arch rival the Pasco Pirates next Friday night at Bulldog Stadium. I am thinking that the place will be packed. Here are some other scores of interest.

Pasco 43    Springstead 44

River Ridge 42    Wesley Chapel 21

Mitchell 19    Land O’Lakes 7

Hudson 58    Gulf 16

ZHS vs Hudson Is The Brighthouse Game Of The Week

Brighthouse Sports Networks picked the Zephyrhills Bulldogs vs Hudson Cobras as the game they would be covering live this week. Brighthouse must have consulted their crystal ball because this game was truly the “Game Of The Week” Clock operator Kerry Ryman, scoreboard operator Nelson Ryman, Kenny Sanders barking out the stats and myself shared the press box with the Brighthouse broadcast crew. It was a fun game and the Bulldogs came out on top by a score of 52 – 37 over the Cobras. The Bulldogs are now 3 – 0 in the district and 4 – 1 overall. They will be traveling to Ridgewood High School next week. Here are some other scores of interest.

Mitchell 42 Pasco 27

Sunlake 38 Springstead 20

Fivay 20 Wesley Chapel 15

Freedom 17 Wiregrass Ranch 6

Anclote 42 Gulf 7
